Description
This is an experimental housing complex seeking to regenerate the shops-cum-houses in an old area popularly known as “the 36th street district”. These unusual buildings have narrow frontages, extend for a depth of 70- 80 m. and have gradually adapted to the highdensity population of 1,000 people/ha. The objective of this project was to make a lowemission, 4-storey townhouse that would not rely on air conditioning. If the renewal of the old city should progress in accordance with this model, our study shows that it would be possible to realise an environmentally friendly model for the compact Asian cities. The porous layering of Space Blocks would achieve this. The porosity ratio (exterior ratio) is 50% , and the way of stacking boxes was determined by CFD (computer fl uid dynamics) analysis to ensure privacy between neighbours.
