The DDA provides different ways to acquire a dwelling; one of them is the SFS (self-financing scheme). DDA provides the buyers with the land, bought at a very low rate. Each tenant then pays for the house in five instalments during the construction. By reducing the investments, DDA could offer a better quality of housing, hence only for middle- and high-income groups. This scheme reduces the internal courtyard to the limit and thus becomes a deep block with a ventilation shaft for the staircase, hence still having the possibility to group in a chain. The staggered terraces are only towards the exterior. The subsequent transformations undertaken by the inhabitants are striking.
