Description

The CPWD was established in 1854 as a central agency for the execution of public works. It was then split in 1863 into Military Works, Civil and Irrigation Works, and Railway Works. The Railway Works department probably built this scheme for railway workers along the tracks. Each two-storey unit enjoys a little garden at the back. Its large balconies, chamfered brise-soleil and decent use of ornament in the entrances give an account of an early Modernist style.
