Description

The demand for centrally located small apartments, coupled with the increase of access to property in the 40s and 50s, generated the minimal type of the kitchenettes: small studio apartments with a kitchen, a bathroom and a terrace. It assured a high return on investment as the multiplication of the same unit allowed for rationalisation of the plan. In this case, Franz Heep could use his knowledge on the minimal unit, acquired in Frankfurt with teachers such as Gropius and Meyer. There are four 35m2 studios, of 3.5m width by 11.2m length, on each floor. The ground floor is commercial. The staircase protrudes out of the volume allowing for maximum geometric efficiency.
