This building combines a garage, a shopping passage, the cereal stock exchange and offices, in the tradition of multi-functional conjuntos of the 50s and 60s [Type 7]. Lucjan Korngold is famous for the CBI Esplanada building (1947), which adopts a similar language to the Bolsa de Cereais: the facades are woven in an orthogonal grid of prefabricated concrete used as a brisesoleil, an exclusive dialogue created between the International Style and Carioca architecture. The tighter mesh of the main tower is superposed on a larger structural grid for the base. Korngold collaborated with Francisco Beck who realized the Edifício Baía Mar [6.5].
